This was a photo that made me think of thanksgiving and giving thanks in general. With many relatives that live away, it makes it hard to communicate with them. Come holiday season, and starting at thanksgiving, we receive many letters and cards and pictures of relatives and there family. For this, I am thankful. This photo reminds me of the anticipation of my dad handing me a letter from our relatives. This photo is successful because it has motion, which is the letter being handed to the person. Also, The shadow on the envelop makes adds to the contrast and interest of the photo. The dark background and the light envelop help draw the eye to the focus and add to the contrast and range of values. Overall, I would say this is a pretty successful photograph.

This photo is successful because of the use of diagonal lines. All of the lines start at the edge of the photo and draw the viewers eye to the middle of the photo. They also act as leading lines, in the same way. It’s as if the lines are pointing toward the subject, or middle of the photo. The photo also uses the rule of thirds. The lines are in one third, but they lead to the focus of the photo, which is in the upper left. Therefore, this photo is successful because of it’s use of diagonals and the rule of thirds.

Perspective
This picture is a good example of perspective. It shows an object from a view that is unique. The angle that the picture was taken makes it much more interesting and draws to the viewers. Also, this picture uses leading lines, as it starts with lines at the top that are wide, and then goes smaller to the middle. Therefore, this photo has both good perspective and leading lines.
Light
This photo uses light to add to the effect. The dark and bright areas of light create a mood, and add to the photo. This photo also uses the rule of thirds, because the focus of the photo, which is the light, is located in the upper right of the picture. The shades of light are very important to the picture because they give it depth and contrast. Therefore, the contrast from the light, and the rule of thirds make this picture successful.

Background Included
I like the composition of this photo because you are drawn to the focus, even though its not the center of the photo. The picture was the intended focus of the photo, but by adding in the plant, and the side of the curtain, it made for an interesting composition. The rule of thirds is also used in the photograph.
Rule of Thirds
I chose this picture as an example of composition because it used the rule of thirds well. The focus of the picture is on the chair, which is in the right third of the photo. The third to the left is taken up by the shadow, and the upper third is what is seen through the window. The angle at which the photo was taken also adds to the composition of this photo.
Background Simplified
This is an interesting photo because of the angle at which it was taken. It was tilted to the side so that the flat level wouldn’t line up with the viewers angle. The center of the photo is also not in the dead center of the photograph. Instead, it is partially cut off on the side. The photo is a close up of the focus, and the background is simple so that the main image stands out.
Rule of Thirds
When taking this picture, I decided to make one of my bikes the focus of the photograph. I then zoomed in on the bike and chose to focus in on the pedal. I made this composition good by having the pedal be in the bottom third of the photo and the gears on the upper third. I was able to achieve a good composition overall because of the way the bike goes diagonally down the right, while your focus drops to the bottom left.
